EXPLORER HOMELESS PROJECT

9 Oct 2020 by Admin

In August I introduced the idea of our post sponsoring a person in need and Explorers began to supply ideas to help.

Working with Deputy Maldonado, we identified Mr Kevin who was down on his luck staying in at John Prince Park. Kevin was a veteran and loved working and selling bicycles and was staying in a tent in the park with all of his tools and bicycles. (SEE PHOTO)

The post suggested we support him with a cell phone so he could communicate and even sell bicycles though Offer Up. Deputy Maldonado and I got him a phone which was presented to him on behalf of our post. (SEE PHOTO)

Another suggestion was to take him to Jack The Bike Man and see if there were any opportunities there. We set up a meeting, got Mr Kevin some new clothes and met with Jack The Bike Man. He was extremely happy to visit “the legend”. (SEE PHOTOS)

Deputy Maldonado also helped Mr Kevin get a Florida ID Card so he could apply for jobs. He also was able to get temporary housing through the Lewis Center Shelter.

Last week our post renewed Mr Kevin’s cell phone for another month. Deputy Maldonado took him again to buy clothes so he could apply for a job at Walmart. (SEE PHOTO)

I want everyone to know that your support in sponsoring Mr Kevin continues to help him in obvious ways. I will add more to his documented journey as he continues to succeed. Each of you has played a part of this meaningful project and you all should be proud.
